Man swallows meth while being arrested on suspicion of casing properties for break-ins

A man suspected of casing properties in southern St. Joseph County for break-ins swallowed methamphetamine as he was being arrested, police said.

MOTTVILLE TOWNSHIP — A man suspected of casing properties in southern St. Joseph County for break-ins swallowed methamphetamine as he was being arrested, police said.

Troopers arrested a 41-year-old from Osceola, Ind. and a 26-year-old Vandalia man after spotting a dark green 1993 Ford Aerostar van with its headlights off pulling into a driveway near Burke and Dickinson roads in Mottville Township at about 1 a.m., according to a Michigan State Police news release.

The Indiana man, whose name was not released, resisted arrest and ingested a baggy of methamphetamine during the 1 a.m. incident, it said. He was treated at Three Rivers Health then jailed on charges of possession of burglary tools, stolen property, methamphetamine and marijuana, resisting and obstructing police, tampering with evidence and driving while his license was suspended.

The Vandalia man, whose name also was not released, faces charges of possession of burglary tools and stolen property.
